Nice to hear from Ben and put a voice to a name!

With respect to another Railroad Camp type of programme, the Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad Museum offers "Guest Engineer" days where you can learn to operate their 2' gauge steam locomotive.

Also, the "tool tip" section deserves to be revived. There are many different tools and handy tips that could be presented during the show.

Tim may need to see a therapist about his GG1 obsession, though....

Since I recorded the interview, the Nevada Northern RR museum changed the name of their railcamp program to the "Railroad Reality Camp," which is the same program previously offered but separate from the NRHS. Something about insurance...
Here's the link: http://nevadanorthernrailway.net/RR%20Reality%20Camp/RR%20Reality%20Camp.htm

Note that the Nevada Northern program for 18+ and is the equivalent of the Adult railcamp (which still continues at Steamtown) so any youngsters will have to go to the Steamtown program. (which I still highly recommend!)

One more thing, here's a funny moment from railcamp
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rFYmIvdbVpE
one of the campers went a little too fast on the live steam track, and derailed. That's me shouting to slow down...

Nice interview with Ben. Great to hear about the railcamp and young folks in the hobby. I don't know of anything like that way out west here, but we do have quite a few restoration projects near me, including the SP&s 700 and SP 4449.
I enjoy the tool tips section and would be very interested in hearing about (or seeing on the forums) peoples workbenches, and tool boxes, custom jigs or what types of tools they think come in handy for their modeling. I think Bernie Kempinski mentioned in a previous show about a paint booth he had made. Also you might think about adding tips on various adhesives, paints, prep procedures to this segment. I for one am having a heck of a time getting my Kadee pilot to adhere to the Delrin plastic footboard/handrails using ACC.
Great show, Happy new Year, Looking forward to the modern modeling show.
Keep up the great work guys! And thank you!

I forgot to mention that I have a link for you guys. http://www.dogcaught.com/ It is a photography link, but he does railroad photography and he is in my area. The guy has a really fantastic EYE, and really captures the flavor of modern pacific northwest rail. Check it out, I hope you enjoy it.

Thanks for a good show. Nice interview with Ben, He's going a long way in Model Reilroading in years to come.

The "Tool Tip" spot should be started up again. Let people call in thier own tips and pick a good one, call them back and record it or get info. and present it on the show.

Have a great new year,
Rick D.

Thanks for a very good show. I really enjoyed the interview with Ben. It sounds like he will have a future in model railroading, and possibly as a railfan. I'd heard of the Rail Camp before, but hearing about it from a first hand perspective gives some new insight into how it's run.

Thanks for the GG-1 story. It's one of my favorite motors, or locos for you non-electric folks. I had a cab ride in one - from Penn Station, under the East River, thru Sunnyside Yard via the loop tracks, and then ending at the Motor Shop after we had left the 12-car train of P70 coaches on a yard track to be cleaned and serviced. The train had been a Philly clocker run. It's amazing how little of a view the Engineer had in them. And talk about noisy - especially in the tunnels - sound everywhere.

Here is a link to a complete story of the Wreck of the Federal Express.

Once more, thanks for re-running the Tool Tip segment - a great idea - more please!

Gil, known as Bill somedays ...

Hey Guys. Now caught up on shows! This one wasn't long enough. Barely made it through the morning leg of todays commute :)
Ryan, Good interview with Ben.
Ben, I'm jealous! Rail camp sounds like lots of good maybe not so clean fun.
Tim, is your wife jealous of the GG-1 yet :)
I also would like to hear more tool (or building) tips .... Have a few I should also share. Maybe a thread on the forums?

Cheers,
Alan
